A report from the Technischer Überwachungsverein (TÜV), the organization responsible for mandatory vehicle safety inspections in Germany, has identified the Tesla Model Y as the worst car in terms of reliability.
Data from around 9.5 million vehicle inspections carried out between July 2024 and June 2025 were analyzed and compiled in the TÜV 2026 report. It was revealed that among cars aged 2 to 3 years, the Model Y recorded a failure rate of 17.3%.
This score — the lowest for any car in the TÜV in 10 years — makes the Tesla electric vehicle the least reliable car. Meanwhile, the Tesla Model 3 ranked third from the bottom, with 13.1% recorded failures.

According to TÜV, the main defects associated with the Model Y are in the suspension components — especially bushings and axle arms — as well as in the brake discs and lighting.
Among all evaluated cars, the highest reliability rates were found in models such as the Mazda 2, which had only a 2.9% defect rate, the Mercedes-Benz B-Class, and the Volkswagen T-Roc, both at around 3%.
